Stephen King The Writer's Journey is developed for young writers to hone and improve their writing talents. This class helps get that one (or many) story ideas out of your student's head and onto paper for the world (or just this class) to hear. This writing group helps encourage a love of creative writing in young people ages 9-14. The Writer's Journey: Let's Write Creatively Together develops a writing environment infused with fun and challenge. Inventive prompts and constructive criticism from the instructor and the students help writers understand the strengths of their work. Together, we can and will build a young writer's community. There will be suggested prompts from a wealth of imaginative ideas to get the student's creative juices flowing. These might include line prompts, a guided exercise, or group brainstorming. Once we have the prompt, a writing period follows where students can do whatever they want with the prompts (including ignoring them). I will try to have two writing/prompt periods, "back to back," but the students will guide the class. After a chunk of solid creative time, each writer is encouraged to share their pieces, after which they will get positive feedback from their peers. Students will get together to write stories, poetry, or anything their imagination gives them. If your student loves to write, has just started writing, or needs an avenue to get their stories out of their head, this is the place to do it. As with all my classes, this class is a safe space where we will always learn from one another and HAVE FUN! Learning Goals
They will learn to give positive and constructive feedback to their peers as they receive feedback to help strengthen their writing abilities.
This is not a class to learn grammar, spelling, or how to write the perfect paragraph. This class is to develop a creative and imaginative story from the imagination up.

I love books (all books), and I have been writing my entire life. Well, maybe not when I was a baby, but you understand. I have been a part of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) since 2015. Since then, I have attended their annual New England conferences (only missed 2020 for obvious reasons). I am currently working on three different middle-grade novels and have been helping my daughter with her writing since she was able to tell a story.
