Help your learner explore storytelling with a legal twist! This 4-week course teaches creative writing while also learning legal concepts about rules, evidence, perspective, and justice. We'll write and workshop stories together.

What's included

4 live meetings
3 hrs 20 mins in-class hours
Mastery Evaluation
1 hour per week. Immediate verbal feedback will be provided during each session for participation in guided writing practice and workshop participation. Some of the writing will be conducted during each session. However, should learners wish to complete their stories outside of class, they are welcome to do so and submit it to me for brief written feedback.
Progress Report
Brief written feedback on your learner's progress toward achieving course objectives will be provided at the end of the course. The progress report will highlight a strength and an area of opportunity with a recommendation for next steps.

Class Experience

Ready to add some drama and legal intrigue to your stories? In this 4-week course, learners will explore how rules, evidence, and justice are the underpinnings of legal systems and how these aspects of the law can inspire great storytelling. From characters who break the rules to witnesses and moral dilemmas, this course will guide learners through crafting exciting stories with a legal twist. 

Through engaging lessons, creative brainstorming, and interactive activities, young writers will learn how to create characters, plots, and conflicts that explore the fascinating world of justice.

Syllabus

4 Lessons
over 4 Weeks
Lesson 1:
Breaking and Enforcing Rules
 Understand some foundational principles of legal systems—why rules exist, how they’re enforced, and what happens when they’re broken. Writing will focus on breaking rules.

Witnesses and Perspectives
 Build on rule-breaking by introducing the role of witnesses and how different perspectives shape the truth in a dispute. Writing will focus on exploring multiple points of view of an incident.

Lesson 3:
Evidence and Proof
 Introduce the idea of gathering evidence to support or refute claims, emphasizing its role in resolving disputes. Writing will focus on gathering evidence to resolve a conflict.

Lesson 4:
Justice vs. Revenge
 Dive deeper into how legal systems aim for justice rather than revenge and the moral dilemmas this approach creates. Writing will focus on deciding between justice and revenge.
