Description

Class Experience

Students will learn about line, color, shape, form, texture, and value by doing simple activities.
Students will learn to reflect on their creations through a process called descriptive review.
Students will engage with each other's work through a casual critical response (critique).
With 15+ years experience as a teaching artist, I have seen many learning styles, school "cultures", and methodologies in teaching art. I found that we often miss the lessons of Foundations of Art and Design because we become so focused on the product. I teach this content emphasizing the language around the foundations, because no matter the age or ability of the student, the vocabulary is the key to truly understanding art making. The cool thing about the foundations is that it is the basis of so many things, like music, composition, writing, and STEM concepts. I like to bridge concepts for students to see their world differently.
Make art every day!
