If the students choose to bring art to class, they can request feedback from me which I will provide in a positive manner!Class Experience
US Grade 4 - 7
Does your little one love to sketch, paint, sculpt? Does your little one have a TON of artwork that he/she/they would like to discuss with their peers? Then this class is for you! This ongoing course is a safe space for students to build a community centered around their love and passion for art! This is also a place to be social while learning! The learners can bring artwork that they have been working on that week to show off to their peers. We will talk about the work, the subject matter, the influence, the meaning of the art, the choice of colors used, etc. If the student wishes, I can offer some insight to the art if they need a little help along the way! During some classes, I will talk about many art vocabulary words such as (but not limited to): "Pointillism", "chiaroscuro", "complimentary colors", "Impressionism", "printmaking", "abstract", "Cubism", "perspective", "linear", "silkscreen", "composition", "color theory", "Harlem Renaissance", "Surrealism", "commission work", "mural", "realism", "Abstract Expressionism", "installation", "mixed media", etc. I will also be talking about many artists and showing their work to the students! This is a fully-interactive class where I strongly encourage interaction and participation! I will encourage the students to direct the club where they want to go! I am there to make sure that we stay on topic. I will have topics of discussion at hand to break the ice if need be. If students do not have artwork or do not wish to share their artwork, that is ok! We can discuss our favorite artists, our favorite type of art, our favorite medium(s) to work with....the art topics are endless! "Every child is an artist". -Pablo Picasso
Learning Goals
Students will learn about different artists, art movements, mediums, museums and other topics that may come up during discussion. Most importantly, students will learn how to listen and share with their peers!
