Class Experience

In this lesson, children will read the chapter 'Wormy Spaghetti'. We will then watch a short clip from the film 'The Twits' that corresponds with this chapter of the book. The children will then look at some food samples and turn them into metaphors, like Roald Dahl has turned spaghetti into worms.

We will then extend the metaphor's into a phrase using adjectives, alliteration, descriptive nouns and adverbs. The children will be reminded and examples will be given of the figurative language. For example, 'A lethal leg of a poisonous spider, twisted with putrid pus and dried blood.' These phrases that the children will invent will then be used to create their own fantastic disgusting Mrs Twit's Menu.

A disclaimer will also be invented!

Together we will then share our menus and comment on each other's use of figurative language.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a UK qualified teacher of 19 years with 4 years of online teaching experience. I have taught a variety of subjects including basic reading and writing, musical mathematics, music, geography, drawing and cake decorating to name a few.

I absolutely love to teach children in ways that are fun and engaging, rather than the textbook norm. I believe children learn best when they are having fun and feel safe - all of which I encourage in my classes. No child will be left behind and all children will be involved if they wish to be.

I look forward to meeting your children from my home here in the UK.
