Class Experience

During this class, students will enhance their Reading, Writing, Drawing and Critical Thinking skills. This is a highly interactive class with each child reading a portion of the story out loud and the entire class discussing the elements of the story and how they compare to real life. Then they will draw their favorite character and tell the class how that character made them feel as it pertains to right and wrong.

I believe in teaching with care, empathy and trust. I want my students to feel comfortable and welcome in my classroom and to know I am there for them. I will always look at each of them as individuals and will teach each one accordingly. My classes are always fun and interactive and students consistently discover the joy of learning. Everyone leaves the classroom with a smile!
Learning Goals
Along with enhancing their Reading, Writing, Drawing and Critical Thinking skills, they will learn that the choices they make can either have positive or negative consequences and that listening to your parents will lead you down the right path.

Supply List
I will be emailing each child/parent the story so the student will have the opportunity to read the story first and become familiar with it. It's important that they are comfortable reading small portions of the story out loud, in front of others, and discussing it in class. Each student should also have pen/pencil and paper for writing and the drawing tool of there choice to use for their picture, such as colored pencils or crayons.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I love teaching kids ages 3-18 in a variety of subjects. For over 30 years I have homeschooled children, aged 7-14, in English, Math, Literature, Science, History and Geography, high school students, aged 15-18, in higher-end Math, Science and Literature as well as the little ones, ages 3-6, in Reading, Drawing and Creative Thinking.

I traveled quite extensively and when given the opportunity, I volunteered to tutor underprivileged kids, ages 8-12, in Spelling, Grammar and Math. This was extremely rewarding!

As a Brownie/Girl Scout Leader, my co-leader and I worked with 12 girls, ages 7-15. We taught a myriad of subjects to help the girls obtain badges. We also engaged in indoor activities such as fireside story telling, group discussions and arts and crafts, and outdoor activities such as discovery hikes, camping trips, selling cookies and sportsmanship in competition.

As a former business owner of a Nutrition store and as a Nutrition and Wellness Coach, I held classes for high school students in healthy eating habits, yoga and mindfulness.

My Masters Degree taught me excellent organizational and time-management skills and, because I had to teach a class once a week, I learned to create class curriculum and then teach it while strengthening my knowledge base in Math, Science, Technology, Writing and Creative Thinking. Later I received my TESOL certification which was a great program for learning to teach all facets of reading, writing, listening, grammar, classroom management, student assessment and lesson planning.

I have learned over the years that the best way to keep children engaged, is to teach them multiple modalities simultaneously, such as including drawing and writing in a reading class. I believe in using positive reinforcement and a customized approach along with the 'fun factor' to ensure each child feels an integral part of the class. My students never feel either bored or left out. This makes their learning experience happy and productive and inspires them to use their individual creativity and discover their skills. I have always had great success with this form of teaching.

Ultimately, my entire life has involved some form of teaching and it has been my greatest joy. Both my mother and sister were high school and middle school teachers, respectively, and loved every minute of it, as I do. In other words, my passion for teaching must simply be in my DNA!
