Homework
1 hour per week. I can provide optional but not required homework following the lesson for extra practice. I can also help you with your already existing homework. Homework can be printed or done on scrap paper.
Grading
Most of the homework I assign will have answer keys in case you want to grade it on your own. I can also provide grading that will be done during class and is optional. Together the Learner and I will take a look at any homework that I assign or that was assigned by anyone else. By grading with the Learner we have a great way to review the assignment and show them the things they did correctly and things they need to work on. I can take a look at homework that was graded by someone else if there was something you don't understand. I can also keep the students letter grade if you would like me to do that. After every assignment (from me or anyone else) the learner and I can add the grades into a grade tracker and calculate their overall grade. This teaches the learner the process of calculating their own grade and is something my high school math teacher taught us. It shows you how and the little things add up and that bad grades become a bad overall grade while good grades provide a good overall grade. It's one of those things I turn into a life lesson. Grading (reviewing assignments) and grade tracking can be done during class, as part of another session, every so often, or not at all. It's up to you. I would suggest reviewing assignments and tracking grades at least once or twice a month. It's like a budget.

Class Experience

When I was coaching, my players grades were very important. I offered and encouraged our players to attend 'study tables'. I once heard a coach say that he didn't call it study hall because that implies that someone sits at a desk while a student sits at a desk and works by themselves. Study tables mean we are all sitting at the same table working on exactly what the player needed.

I want this class to be similar. We can help with homework, review concepts you have been working on, or get you ready for the next things you have coming up.

***CLASS STRUCTURE***
We use slides to guide each class in a smooth and organized way. Each class starts with the Team Meeting and Life Lesson of the Day. You can read more about those on my teaching profile.

After that I will have a conversation with each student to get an idea of what they are working on. If they want to work on homework we will dive into that. If they just want to get better all around then I have preselected slides that will assess each student at their grade level. If a student is doing well on something we move on until we find the sweet spot of what we need to work on. After the first session we will start to set goals for each student that are tailored to their needs and would go over those at the start of each class.

**Math Help**
Next we move into the bulk part of our lesson for class. These can be any math topic for students from 3rd grade up to 8th grade. *Essay help**
I also have found that I really enjoy writing papers. In college I always enjoyed writing composition and exposition papers and then I started teaching them as part of my Adult Education classes. I feel very comfortable helping students become better writers of an essay by going over what an essay is and making sure we understand the different types as well as be given tips and tricks on how to write a good essay. My students have a very high success rate in passing the essay part of their test. I believe out of 40 students that I sign up for the test have passed their essay on the first attempt. If it's essay help you need, I will spend class going through the steps in how to write a good essay and reply to a prompt. We will end with a little grammar practice. Additional sessions can be booked to spend time working with students on practice essays as well as assist with homework from other classes.

*I also provide help for teens with learnign about the best ways to handle money. We use a lot of teaching from Dave Ramsey, Kurt Reid, and others. Feel free to ask if interested.

WE ARE CURRENTLY IN SUMMER HOURS!! CLASS TIMES/ DAYS ARE PENDING FOR THIS FALL!

***CLASS INSPIRATION***
After teaching for 7+ years I have developed a ton of successful strategies to help students. I enjoy all subjects but math and writing essays have been a few of my favorite. I have been tutoring in various places and I wanted to offer that up to anyone on Outschool as well!

Supply List
Paper and a writing device OR a white board and dry erase marker are useful but not required. I also have a document camera and a white board and once I teach a concept in math I like to have students tell me what to write. I have found this to be a great instruction strategy. Access to a printer for extra practice (homework) may be helpful but again, not necessary.
