The Secret Science Behind A Grocery Store's Layout: How They Get You To Buy Things You Didn't Even Know You Wanted

Class Experience

"Mom can we stop at the store and get pizza rolls for dinner?..." An hour later you emerge from the grocery store with your Mom feeling like she bought one of everything in the store.

By the time you get home, you realize that she did buy waaaaay more than you asked for. Maybe this is why you hate going grocery shopping with your Mom; but did you know that grocery stores are designed to keep you in them longer and buying more?

It's All In The Layout!

Grocery stores and Supermarkets combine science, human behavior and merchandising techniques to turn a simple shopping trip into a shopping spree.

Knowledge is Power!

During this class you will learn the tricks and techniques used to generate more sales of items throughout the grocery store and become a better educated, smarter, and wealthier consumer.

Learn the secrets why the dairy and milk cases are in the far back of the store and why the bakery is in the corner beyond the entrance and what is being communicated by the items on the endcap displays.

Learn how impulse buys are staged and why candy, magazines and easy-to-grab items are placed by the registers as you're waiting in line to check-out.

Learn these scientific placements and how they trigger human behaviors and what you can do to overcome them and only buy what you went into the store to purchase.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
If you are interested, I would be happy to have both parents and children "code" themselves to learn more about their characteristics for buying and communicating. This "coding" method is used by businesses across the globe and is NOT a personality test that is still used in most businesses and educational environments. This is not a part of this class, but it is an option for those families who want to learn more.
Supply List
Handouts will be provided upon request to show how you can overcome the booby-traps the grocery stores set for you.

Teacher expertise and credentials
With a background in sales and marketing and a lifelong passion for education, I believe every smart consumer should know the millions of dollars that are invested in psychology and behavioral sciences that go into getting people to buy. As an educator and entrepreneur, I have been on both sides of this process in learning and creating marketing campaigns to increase sales and to educate businesses on how people buy.
