The Road to Creative Writing
In this 5 week course students will learn how to enhance their grammar and language skills, while learning to use their own voice within their writing.

In this class students will learn how to enhance their grammar and language skills, while learning to use their own voice within their writing. The class will be taught live through zoom. Topics that the students will cover will include character development, vivid settings, point of view, plot development, as well as dialogue amongst characters and metaphors and similes to bring more life to their writing. 5 lessons//5 Weeks
Week 1Lesson 1Introduction and SharingIn this lesson students will introduce themselves. Then they will be introduced to the fundamentals of Creative Writing and what all it has to offer.Week 2Lesson 2The works of fictionIn this lesson students will create a story using a fictional scenario with made up characters, plot , and story line. To increase class participation among the students they will be the ones giving the characters, plot, and theme in which the scenario will be posted for the class to create their own storyline from the writing prompt.Week 3Lesson 3The works of non-fictionIn this lesson students will be create a story using a non-fictional storyline with real characters. This can be people they know or people they may not know personally. However, they will create a storyline with real characters, plot, along with a setting and some dialogue.Week 4Lesson 4Open PoetryIn this lesson students will be introduced to different forms of poetry. After being introduced the students will be prompted to create their choice of poetry to share with the class.Week 5Lesson 5Popcorn StorytellingIn this final lesson the students will recap briefly over what they have learned during this class. Next they will participate in a game in storytelling using the vocabulary they have learned throughout the course.
This class is taught in English.
- The students will learn how to properly develop their characters within their stories as well as know the difference between fictional and nonfictional work .
- The goal for students taking this class is to be introduced to creative writing and being able to utilize what they have learned within this class to help them become better writers moving forward.
- Students taking this course should also be more comfortable and confident when it comes to writing within any genre of creative writing.
I have my B.A in English with a Creating Writing Emphasis and a minor in education that was obtained from The University of Mississippi.

The students can use either a laptop or tablet to write their stories with. If they want to use paper that is fine. However, all assignments must be emailed to me so that they may be graded and to ensure that the students have completed their work. If they choose to write it on paper and screen shot their work I will take that as well as long as the picture is clear.
