US Grade 7 - 9
You have done your brainstorming, picked your topic, done your research, and collected all of your notes. Your teacher has approved it and then said "please create an outline for your essay before you begin writing and turn it in to me." What is an outline? You know it is the framework for a piece of writing, but what does that really mean? Do you wonder why you have to bother with this step in the writing process? Are you curious about the purpose of an outline is? Do you struggle with how to set your outline up? Well - wonder and struggle no more! This is the class for you! We are going to create a reverse outline in this class! We are going to start with a standard, five paragraph essay and create the outline from this essay itself. This process helps learners see how each piece of the outline has a specific place in an essay. This will give students the knowledge needed to be able to create outlines of their own in order to great essays!
Learning Goals
Students will be able to create an outline from a standard five paragraph essay.
Students will be able to identify the various parts and levels of an outline.

Supply List
Students would benefit from some paper and something to write with in order to take notes and create the outline as we work. If students have color pencils, color pens, or multiple color highlighters, this may be helpful as I will color code things as we work through them. Finally, the essay will be posted in the classroom discussion board. Students are welcome to download and/or print it before our class.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

I have a doctoral degree in education and I am currently enrolled in law school because I believe that there is always more to learn! I love teaching students topics in English language arts, social studies, math, academic success skills, as well as arts and crafts. I love to teach, bake, sew, hangout with my family, and, of course, learn new things! I hope to "see" you in class very soon!
