Assessment
I will give a few screeners checking high-frequency words and reading at the beginning session so I know where to start instruction. Periodically, I will reassess to check the progress of your child and see what else we need to work on.Class Experience
US Grade 1 - 5
Teaching reading is a hugely complicated task. I am highly qualified at reading instruction. I will meet your child where they are and move forward from there. If your child is a beginning learner we will learn letter identification, sounds, and formation. Moving up the reading continuum we will practice phonemic awareness which includes rhyming, onset/rime, manipulating sounds, and beginning high-frequency words. If your child is more advanced then we will work on blending sounds, decoding and encoding, segmentation, and fluency. High-frequency words will be addressed in each session paying close attention to the irregular words that are most difficult. There are short video clips and slides to show how the mouth forms each sound and audio clips so the sounds can be heard clearly. Over the years I have taken many students from non-readers to successful readers. I would love to work with your child!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a Certified Dyslexia Therapist and Reading Interventionist. I have worked with struggling readers for 29 years. I believe every child can learn, each child learns differently so you must find the right teacher and the key to open the door. Even at a young age, I knew I wanted to teach reading.
I have a masters degree in education, am a certified Reading Recovery Specialist, a certified Literacy Coach, and a certified Dyslexia Therapist. I use the multi-sensory methodology of teaching reading as well as other research-based methods of instruction, all of which are set up to help the struggling reader. I will choose the tools that best fits your child.
In my introductory video you met my fur baby. Since March 2020 I've spent a lot of time tutoring virtually, reading, knitting and crocheting with him napping on my lap.
