The Power of Combining Like Terms

Students will review and practice combining like terms. As a current special education teacher, this seems to be a huge struggle for students. Using color coding and graphic organizers, students will have repeated exposure to like terms.

Class Experience

Beginner Level
This mini-lesson on combining like terms introduces the basic concept and provides both guided and independent practice to help students solidify their understanding of simplifying algebraic expressions.
Students will access the lesson through EdPuzzle. I have recorded and embedded questions into the activity. Most prompts will be auto graded. Those that are not will be graded within 24 hours of submission.

Lesson 1:
Combining Like Terms
 By the end of this mini lesson,students will be able to identify like terms and combine them to simplify algebraic expressions. We will start with a review to see what they know followed by a quick check.
Students will be presented with two examples and try-it problems.
Students will then be able to practice what they know followed by a challenge activity.

My speciality is in specific learning disabilities. I go slow and repeat. I use colors to help with visual tracking.
Parental Guidance
Students will be required to log into Edpuzzle. Please have students use their names-- no one will see these but me! For full courses, students will be asked to create a FREE log in if they haven't already.
Pre-Requisites
Students should know how to add and subtract positive and negative numbers.
