Lesson 1:
What's a Preposition?
 • Read-aloud and discuss the picture book, Hoops.
• Intro/review of prepositions with videos and games to check and reinforce understanding.

Preposition "Sculptures"
 • Make, describe, and discuss "preposition sculptures."
• Read and discuss other pieces of writing that highlight prepositions, including poetry by student authors.

Lesson 3:
Students as Mentor Authors
 • Read and discuss writing by other students that highlights prepositions, including poetry by student authors.

Lesson 4:
Drafting a Poem
 • Introduce graphic organizers, word banks, and prompts to help scaffold students as they draft their own poems.
• (Optional) Share drafts with class for feedback.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
This class will involve the use of the following approved third-party tools: Google Drive, Kahoot, Quizizz. Students will respond to questions designed to assess comprehension and promote analysis and reflection in games on Quizizz and Kahoot. They will draft and revise their poems in a Google doc preloaded with prompts, templates, and word banks to scaffold their success.
Supply List
Students will each work on their own copy of a Google doc supplied by the teacher, scaffolded with prompts, word banks, and structure templates that guide students through the writing process.
