The Penderwicks Book Club 2
Class experience
This can be taken after The Penderwicks Book Club 1 or before; however, some parts from book 1 may be mentioned just a few times. -------------------- The Penderwicks Book Club 2 (The Penderwicks on Gardam Street) will bring to life the characters in the book, by discussing the main ideas, sharing opinions, and learning how to write a short book report. This book has 21 chapters plus a prologue and epilogue. We will cover about 3 chapters in each class. Before day 1, read Prologue and...
Gain confidence in sharing opinions, listening to others' opinions, being respectful of others' opinions, discussing the Penderwicks together, and learning how to form ideas and what was learned from the book into a short book report.
The Penderwicks series by Jeanne Birdsall is my all time favourite book series! I have read the whole series and some of the books I have re-read a few times: therefore, I am the perfect person to do a book club for this book because I can share my love of this book and author with others.
Homework Offered
Students will be expected to read the book (or if they have read the book in the past, then to skim through the chapters that will be discussed each week; or even listen to the book on audio). Students will also learn how to write a short book report to which will be read out loud during the last class (optionally), and as a class, we will share feedback (or they can message me it for feedback).2 - 4 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
No quizzes or tests. Students will also learn how to write a short book report to which will be read out loud during the last class, and as a class, we will share feedback. The report will not be graded: the report should follow directions given in class and discuss The Penderwicks on Gardam Street.Grades Offered
Each student needs a copy of The Penderwicks on Gardam Street by Jeanne Birdsall. While I do not mind them listening to it on audio instead of reading, having the book may help in writing the book report.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Some topics in this book that you might want to discuss with your children that will be mentioned in this book include the death of a parent, cancer, a single parent dating, remarriage, step-parent, and tweens liking each other, to name a few.
