Week 1Lesson 1FormatsIn this lesson, learners will be introduced to a variety of note-taking formats. The formats will range from subject specific to more general. There will also be some suggestions given on how to adjust the formats to fit their specific needs and learning styles. Students will be asked to complete follow up questions about the formats.Week 2Lesson 2VisualsThis lesson will cover additional visuals that can be added to notes to enhance understanding and retention. Also discussed are how and when to create the visuals. Students will have the option of creating a visual that is beneficial to them and explaining their reasoning for what they have created. There is also a Kahoot! quiz over the content of this lessonWeek 3Lesson 3What to Note and ShorthandTwo different topics will be discussed this week. We will discuss what to focus on when taking notes so as to understand how to weed out unnecessary information. Then we will cover the art of shorthand. Shorthand is helpful for obtaining maximum information with minimal writing. This can be helpful for learners who generally require more time to write, or for situations where an instructor moves through material faster than is easy to keep up with. There is a practice activity for students.Week 4Lesson 4Highlights and RewritesThis lesson is all about how to use your notes after you've taken them. How do we use our notes to study in the best way possible? Why is a word-for-word rewrite not actually the best way to study in that format? How can highlighting be used constructively? These questions, along with many others, will be answered in this lesson. There will be a practice activity for students to complete with this lesson.
Students will learn to take organized notes and use them effectively.
