The world around us is filled with matter! This class will allow students to discover what matter is the types of matter substances vs mixtures, states of matter, and explore changes in state of matter by making ice cream! The goal for this one time class is for students to gain knowledge of matter and beginning chemistry through a hands on fun and engaging experiment of making ice cream. At the end of this class students will have a better understanding of matter and chemistry and homemade ice cream!

Learners will have a deeper understanding of matter what it is the types of matter we can see and states of matter and how they can change.

Supply List
Students will need materials for ice cream: 1/2 cup milk (reg or chocolate) 1/2 cup whipping cream or heavy cream 1/4 cup white sugar 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/2 cup table salt (iodized salt) 2 cups ice 1 gallon ziploc bag 1 quart ziploc bag hand towel or gloves (if bags get too cold)

Hello! My name is Rachael Snider I am a certified 9-12 grade science teacher and have been teaching science since 2014. I have a B.A. in Environmental Biology and a Masters degree in Education. I have taught Chemistry, Biology, Physical Science, and Earth Science. My passion is to make science approachable for every student.
