Students will participate in a role-playing game that allows them to experience various parts of Greek Mythology as a young hero/heroine. The mission of each hero/heroine will be to explore 4 islands near Ithaca at the request of Odysseus. These lost islands have been mapped, but no one has returned to tell of their findings. Hopefully, you and your team of heroes will be the first! Class #1: Students will fully create their hero/heroine character on the character sheet. Next, they will choose a class or role and craft/collect items for their adventure. They will receive special items and choose their abilities. Finally, they will decide on a creature buddy to accompany them and begin their journey. The following island adventures can happen in any order depending on the actions of the heroes in the adventure. Island #1: The characters will explore and name island 1. They will document the wildlife present there, fight and capture any native creatures, and resolve any missions on the island. Island #2: The characters will explore and name island 2. They will document the wildlife present there, fight and capture any native creatures, and resolve any missions on the island. Island #3: The characters will explore and name island 3. They will document the wildlife present there, fight and capture any native creatures, and resolve any missions on the island. Island #4: The characters will explore and name island 4. They will document the wildlife present there, fight and capture any native creatures, and resolve any missions on the island. This is a role-playing game with some similarities in format to other role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons. I have chosen to do it in a much more simplified format so that the class would still be focused on gaining more knowledge in Greek Mythology. If you have done any of the other mythology role playing adventures, you will want to print Heroes in Training Character Sheet 2 again and the Class Character Sheet.
Learning Goals
The goal of our lesson is to experience some of the adventures that happen in Greek Mythology. If the student has knowledge of Greek Mythology, their hero/heroine will make wise decisions in the different encounters. If the student has not read Greek Mythology, they will encounter new monsters, gods/goddesses, and places. Every student will receive all the information they need to make the best decision for their hero/heroine.

Parental Guidance
Mythology often has a lot of violence and death due to their stories centered around war, heroes vs. monsters, impossible quests, and jealous gods/goddesses.
