Students will be assigned a section of the book to read each week. As a group, we will discuss the events of the assigned reading in a respectful manner giving all students the chance to respond if they so wish to during class. The students will enjoy learning literacy skills in a fun and engaging way. Week 1: Introductions, Read chapter 1-3 BEFORE the first class, class procedures Week 2: Chapters 4-8 Literary Elements: vocabulary, prediction, quotes, character analysis, story elements Week 3: Chapters 9-12 Literary Elements: vocabulary, prediction, quotes, character analysis, story elements Week 4: Chapters 13-16 Literary Elements: vocabulary, prediction, quotes, character analysis, story elements Week 5: Chapters 17-21 Literary Elements: vocabulary, prediction, quotes, character analysis, story elements Week 6: Chapters 22 Literary Elements: vocabulary, prediction, quotes, character analysis, story elements Students will be assigned a chapter to present a summary of for the next class. If class is larger, there may be more than one student assigned the same chapter.

Parental Guidance
Violence:
The book contains fantasy violence, as well as family violence. These topics will be addressed in questions about Percy's anger, his dads anger, and the Greek god's anger.
Traditions & Customs:
This book has a theme centered around Greek mythology and Greek gods. These gods will be discussed in every class.
