The History of Witch Trials with Escape Rooms!

This engaging class is run over four weeks, learners will learn about the history of witch trials in Britain and America during the 16, 17 and 18th centuries.

People have always been fascinated with the supernatural and the witch trials, persecuted innocent women for centuries. In this class we will look at what happened and why and then engage with the learning with escape rooms.

Each week will consist of a video lesson which the children can watch to understand that lesson’s learning point, they will then complete set work and play online escape room games. They will use the OutSchool classroom to support each other, and submit work.

While this class does not meet live, the children will still be expected to participate by completing the set tasks, returning their work and commenting on other’s.

Week 1: This week we will start off by looking at where the idea of witch craft originated from, identifying the issues with the accusations and understanding some of the motivations. The class will watch the learning videos, complete the activity and then participate in an online escape room which practices the knowledge we have learnt.

Week 2: Week 2 is about the English trials. We will cover; the beginning of the craze, the trials themselves and the ideas behind them. We will also look at how these ideas spread. After the learning the students will have work to complete and another escape room to support their learning.

Week 3: This week we will learn about the trials in North America, in particular the Salam witch trials. This week will include a written activity alongside the lesson. The learners will again be given an escape room to demonstrate their knowledge

Week 4: Week 4 focuses on change and how society has grown, we will look at how people are still interested in witch craft and things they cannot explain. We will have a final week activity and as with previous weeks, the learners will again be given an escape room to demonstrate their knowledge
