US Grade 4 - 7
Is Halloween your favorite holiday? Then come join us as we dive into the dark and complex history of Halloween. In the course of 1 week - 3 lessons, we will go back to the age of the Celts and explore why the end of summer and harvest season was a time to celebrate. We will look at how the holiday has evolved through different cultures and how different religions have come to celebrate it. We will take a look at the evolution of traditions into the modern customs of trick-or-treating for candy and wearing costumes. We will look at the history of jack-o-lanterns and learn about different myths and legends about the day. This class will be taught through recorded lectures and may also include supplemental videos (Youtube), readings, worksheets, and activities (movies, experiments, and crafts). Please see the syllabus below for a layout of the lessons included in this course. This class is presented in an asynchronous format. If you are taking this class through the Class Subscriptions, there will be no communication between learner and myself. If you are taking this class through the Self-Paced format, you will have 1 year to complete the lessons. If you choose to submit homework or communicate (questions on the classroom page), I will respond within 24 hours (excluding Sundays). Come and join us for a spooky good time!
