The Hatchet Novel Study

During this class, we will read through the award winning novel "Hatchet" by Gary Paulsen. Each week we will read 1-2 chapters, and complete various activities. For every 2 chapters, there is a vocabulary activity and a comprehension activity. There are additional activities throughout the course that touch on figurative language, main idea and details, theme, and journal entries. 

I will teach by starting every class either with a quick write to introduce the chapter for the day, or we will jump into reading from the chapter we left off on. We will then work together on the vocabulary and comprehension activities. This class will include both individual working time and whole class discussions. I ask that all students participate by taking turns reading and answering questions. 

My teaching style is very relaxed, but I strive to get the best out of every student. I like to see where each student is in their learning, and push them to get even better. This class is a great way to make reading fun for your child. 

The students will be interacting with their fellow classmates and myself during the entire class. We will walk through all of the assignments together, and students can ask questions at any point during the class. I am looking forward to reading a great book together!
