Class Experience

ATTENTION, ATTENTION!!! This class is exactly the same as The Great Grammar Adventure that meets weekly except this class will meet TWICE PER WEEK so your student can finish all the great material in half the time.

In The Great Grammar Adventure, I do my best to make grammar interesting, fun , and memorable for students. In this semiweekly adventure, we explore a broad range of grammar concepts with a variety of fun themes. Some topics included are sentence types, subjects and predicates, contractions, synonyms, antonyms, homophones, punctuation, verb tenses, possessive pronouns, capitalization, compound words, and so much more.

⭐️⭐️UPDATE: Parents have asked, and I now have worksheets available after every class for students who want more practice with our grammar topic for the week.

I teach my classes using slides I've created with colorful clip art, and I like to have learners participate by answering questions and practicing the grammar concept we're working on that day. I believe education should involve the students as much as possible and give them the chance to think through new ideas with plenty of guidance to help them feel confident while learning.

These classes are independent of each other, so kids can jump in at any time without worrying about missing anything. It’s helpful if learners are reading at a first grade level. The Great Grammar Adventure is perfect for the advanced 1️⃣ first-grader, 2️⃣ on-level second-grader, and the 3️⃣ third-grader who needs a little review.

👉👉IMPORTANT NOTE: This class contains 22 topics. Once I have completed a cycle I will start again from the beginning. Class sections may be on different topics so please message me if you'd like to know where a section is in the rotation. The classes do not build upon each other, so your student can begin with any lesson. If you'd like to complete the classes at a slower pace, this same class is also available once a week and will take about a semester to complete.

Topics will be taught in the following order:

Sentence Types
Subjects and Predicates
Complete Sentences, Fragments, and Run-ons
Homophones
Contractions
Contractions with Pronouns
Common and Proper Nouns
Singular and Plural Nouns

Bachelor's Degree from Texas A&M University
Howdy from East Tennessee! I’m Shelley Greaney, and I love teaching on Outschool. I earned my bachelor’s degree at Texas A&M University, majoring in journalism with a minor in English. I'm a mother of six, grandmother of five, and I home schooled all of my children for a total of 26 years. I began teaching online five years ago as an ESL teacher and then started nutrition and grammar classes on Outschool. I also taught as a volunteer for elementary-aged children for ten years.

As a true grammar nerd, I offer foundational grammar classes for grades one, two, and three. The Great Grammar Adventure, a 29-week ongoing class, covers over a semester’s worth of grammar topics with two writing units, as well. I'm always looking for ways to make grammar more interesting for students.

I also teach First Grade Curriculum for K-1st graders. This class meets three times per week and covers a variety of topics including phonics, math, language arts, telling time on an analog clock, reading a calendar, social skills, and so much more. Students enjoy a new theme every week, worksheets to reinforce what we learn in class, and Show & Tell at the end of every class.

I believe learning should always be engaging, fun, and practical, and I work very hard to make sure each student, regardless of level, feels successful in class. I incorporate fun-themed slides, open-ended questions, scaffolding, and discussion to keep kids interested and engaged in class. I believe in letting kids share and participate in class, while maintaining an organized learning atmosphere. Lots of smiles and laughter are welcome in my classroom every day. I hope to see your child in my zoom room sometime soon.
