Class Experience

Join me as we explore the world of the Food Group Collection! This collection was written by Jory John and Pete Oswald. These awesome food characters will help us explore different emotions throughout their stories.

Class will begin with an engaging question that will tie into our story. We will share our answers together before we read our weekly story. We will also practice making predictions about each story by looking at the cover of the story before we begin. Following our story we will discuss important elements and compare the outcome of the book to our original predictions.

What kinds of emotions will we learn?
• The Good Egg: Always Acting Good (How It Can Be Hard)
• The Bad Seed: Grumpy, Bad Manners, & Bad Attitude
• The Cool Bean: Being Kind Is Cool
• The Couch Potato: Get Up & Move!
• The Smart Cookie: Being Smart, Creative, & Confident
• The Sour Grape: Holding Grudges, Being Compassionate, & Forgiveness
• The Big Cheese: Some Things Are Better Than Being the Best

🎨 My favorite part about this class is the craft portion! Each week, we will engage in a directed drawing of our awesome food characters. By the end of this ongoing course, you will get 7 cute keepsakes of the characters we met in each story.

Since this is an ongoing class, you may join (or leave) at anytime! The classes do not build off of one another. Each character will have their story on its own assigned week.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello everyone, my name is Miss Alyssa. Welcome to my classroom!

I am a positive and enthusiastic teacher who loves to integrate fun into my classroom. I have my Bachelor's degree in Education. I have been teaching for 5 years. I have taught Preschool and Pre-K. Currently, I teach 5th grade.

I truly believe that children learn best not only when they're engaged, but also when they're having fun! That’s why I strive to make learning fun for all children.

What does my classroom look like? My classes will offer slideshow presentations, movement/brain breaks, music and stories, arts and crafts, experiments, and open discussions. Each class will be engaging, interactive, and student-centered. I offer the 3-step approach to learning: I do, we do, you do. With this approach, I first model the lesson and show the expectations. Then, we try it out together as a group. Lastly, students are encouraged to try on their own. I will support students in whichever way they need that fits their individual learning style.

I love to take the interests of my students and integrate them into my lessons. I believe that children are more eager to participate when they are truly enjoying the lesson!

I am so excited to meet your learners in class & I hope to spark their love for learning the same way that my teachers did when I was young!❤️

If you have any questions about classes, please reach out and send me a message. Parent/teacher communication is important to me, and I would love to work together to meet the needs of your child.
