1 hour per week. Students will complete occasional homework assignments that will help to reinforce the new vocabulary learned during class. Homework assignments will take no more than 10-15 minutes to complete.Class Experience
Intermediate Level
It is recommended that learners have taken The French Corner Level 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 prior to enrolling in this course. This is an interactive online course that encourages active student participation. Students will learn through question and answer discussions, music and online learning games. Week 1: Qu'en penses-tu? We will learn how to share our opinions with others. Week 2: Je suis perdu! Learners will learn how to give simple directions (ex. left, right, turn, go straight, turn around). Week 3: Fais ceci-fais cela. L'imperatif. We will learn how to conjugate imperative verbs and how to give commands and instructions. Week 4: Comment comparer les choses. We will take our time learning how to make comparisons. We will play an interactive game on Nearpod.com to review what we have learned. Week 5: Le Passé Composé. We will learn how to conjugate verbs in the past tense. Week 6: Qu'est ce-qui se passe? Learners will describe what they just did and what they are doing right now. Week 7: L'extreme. Hot/cold, tall/short, far/near, big/small, old/young? We will discuss extremes in the French language. Week 8: Les cadeaux. We will talk about gift giving in the French language. We will also play a Nearpod game to review what we have learned.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Throughout the course we will be making use of YouTube, Nearpod, and Canva. An account is not required for any of these websites. I will be making use of the share screen feature on Zoom to share my presentations, videos and games. When a game is played in class students will use a link provided in the Chat feature on Zoom and will only input their name/nickname.
Supply List
A notebook and pencil are recommended for note taking but are not required.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I started learning French in 2008, passed the AP French Language Exam with a score of four and have used the language in my volunteer work in Long Island, New York. I spent several weeks in Montreal, Canada every summer from 2011 to 2014 to fully immerse myself in the French language with a host family. I have also spent time in Paris, France to put my language skills to use. I have been teaching French online since 2020.
