Class Experience

Henri Rousseau was a French post-impressionist painter in the Naïve manner and is famous for his vivid and colourful depictions of exotic jungles and rainforests populated with exciting and almost animated wildlife - his paintings are beloved by children and adults alike and are very enjoyable to imitate on paper! In this class we will read the picture book The Fantastic Jungles of Henri Rousseau (you do not need a copy of the book) and discuss some of his most famous paintings such as 'Tiger in a Tropical Storm' and the children will be encouraged to engage with each painting, offering creative vocabulary words to describe it. We will also look at other famous paintings in the Naive Gina Art Gallery in Israel which has many beautiful and colourful Naive paintings and learners will get to engage with each painting, offering creative descriptive vocabulary. At the end of the class we will complete a drawing tutorial inspired by the French artist and decorate our own jungle inspired drawing.
