In this learner-directed course, I will guide your student as they learn piano using Faber and Faber's Piano Adventures method. Learners will get one-on-one lessons with me for sixteen weeks as they learn songs from their lesson books and new music theory topics in each lesson. This class has no prerequisites since we begin at the level with which your learner is most familiar - whether they are just beginning, continuing lessons, or starting again after a break from music lessons! The only things needed in advance of this course are access to a piano or keyboard for daily practice and Faber and Faber Piano Adventures books suitable to your learner's experience level and age. Send me a message so we can discuss which level Faber and Faber Piano Adventures book to order for your learner! I encourage creativity during their lessons, so along with learning to play the songs as written in their books, we will invent new challenging ways to play them and they will exercise their creativity as they compose their own songs. We will cover topics such as repeats, musical phrasing, different hand positions, and dynamics. Since music is a form of self-expression, I also highly encourage learners to find some music they want to learn. Whether these are popular songs, classical pieces, themes from movies or video games, or other genres, learners and I work together to find music that suits their skill level but is challenging enough to spend several weeks mastering. These classes meet once weekly for thirty minutes. Whenever schedule conflicts arise, my primary solution is to reschedule our weekly meeting to another day or time. Sometimes this might be another day during the same week but sometimes the best option may be to add a lesson to the end of class. To accommodate this, I have scheduled three make-up lesson times at the end of the course (the last three weeks of class). These will only be used if necessary, so if they are unused our class will end after the sixteenth meeting.
Learning Goals
Progressing at their own pace, learners will gain mastery of the piano by reading music, learning musical techniques, practicing hand positions, and gaining confidence in their skills.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from Berklee College of Music
Hello Outschool! I'm Mrs. Becca, a lover of music, knitting, books, and baking. Having a Bachelor's in Music Composition for Film, TV, and Games from Berklee College of Music, I teach creative classes on writing music, performing music, music theory, sound effects, and musical score composition. I have studied music through piano, voice, and composition for 19+ years and taught music for 8+ years.
My love for art and creativity is best summed up by the author C. S. Lewis: “We do not want merely to see beauty . . . We want something else which can hardly be put into words — to be united with the beauty we see, to pass into it, to receive it into ourselves, to bathe in it, to become part of it."
