Class Experience

In this class we will focus completely on Artificial Super Intelligence. The goal of this class is to give learners a realistic understanding of what super intelligence is, what we know of the underlying science, how it might be implemented into machines and how it will change the world. While super intelligence has yet to be developed, most of this class will focus on my 20+ years in Artificial General/Super Intelligence research.

Learners can expect a discussion filled experience. My goal is to entice learners to ask critical questions, to dare to envision a bold future and, hopefully, want to grow up to take an active part in this future.

While the subject is highly complex, the content in this class will be presented in an age appropriate way. The goal is not to make each learner a subject matter expert, instead the focus is to give them a birds-eye view introduction to this field.

*** IMPORTANT: This class is offered as 5x per week (1 week duration), 3x per week (2 week duration), 1x per week (5 week duration) or weekends (3 week duration). Please double check the available times before booking. Happy to move students to other times if you need to change ***

Weekly content:

Class 1
In this first class learners will get an introduction to what super intelligence is. We'll explore how Hollywood movies presents artificial super intelligence and how current day artificial intelligence stack up. We will also discuss how scientists, and famous people, say about the future of super intelligence.

Class 2
In our second class we will talk about "intelligence". What is it? And is there a scientific definition for "intelligence"? If we are to build artificial super intelligence, we need to know what it is.

Now that we have some idea of what intelligence is we can discuss how we potentially could implement it into machines. This class learners will also get a peak into cutting edge research in an age appropriate way. Learners with great coding skill may be able to play with coding simple learning algorithms (on their free time - we will not do that in this class).

Class 3
In this period we will investigate myths from Elon Musk and others. Because learners will have a basic understanding on how super intelligence might work, we can now discuss if Elon's warning of a disaster to humanity is based on truth or made up. We will also discuss other myths from other scientists and famous people.

Class 4
Most scientists are more focused on trying to build super intelligence and less focused on how to use it. It is my view that understanding how to use it is critical. We will discuss potential ways we could use this technology to change life on our planet.

Class 5
Did you know that NSA, CIA, Russians and the Chinese are trying to build super intelligence to spy on everyone? And they are also looking for anyone who might have built it to either control them or steal it. Super intelligence is supposed to change the world and every government wants to control it for their own interest. We will discuss what they are doing.

Hello Fellow Learners!

My name is Mounir Shita - but you can call me Mo (trust me, it is scientifically proven to be easier to pronounce). I have been amazed and intrigued by thinking machines since I was a teenager. As an adult, I've made it my career to research and develop thinking machines.

I've spent over 20 years researching real thinking machines, built a lot of technology, started my own "AI" companies and even been involved in government "AI" programs.

In Outschool I hope to contribute to make you curious science, especially intelligent machines. I will teach classes ranging from introduction to artificial intelligence and thinking machines, to ethics (is it good or bad?) to teaching you how to build your own AI-powered games.
