The Calming Craftivism Club: A Creative DIY Club for Young Activists + Feminists

Class

Average rating:4.9Number of reviews:(108)
An ongoing club designed for creative kids who are interested in DIYs, art, feminism, environmentalism, LGBTQ+ rights, social justice, and anti-racism!

Class experience

This class is taught in English.
Students will have lots of hands-on learning that is centred on fun and creativity. They will make creative art projects inspired by feminism, environmentalism, and and social justice movements. This is a welcoming and inclusive space for kids of all genders to connect with others who have similar interests as them.
I am a Ph.D. student in Gender, Feminist, and Women's studies and have been teaching children and teens for over 8 years. My area of study is film but I am also a visual artist outside of school and I love hands-on, arts and crafts based learning!
Recommended supplies can be found around the house! There is (usually!) no need to buy new supplies for this club. There is a strong focus on using recycled materials in our projects. Students are encouraged to use materials that are already available to them such as:

Paper (construction, tissue, scrapbook paper, recycled newspapers, cardboard, etc.)
Markers, crayons, pencils, or coloured pencils
Paints (whatever you already have on hand! Watercolour, acrylics, ink, etc.)
tape
glue
scissors
old magazines
stickers, sequins, glitter
thread or embroidery
photos
Optional if they prefer working digitally: iPad, tablet, or smart phone
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
