In this multi-day class, students will learn the days of the week, months, seasons, how to say the date, and weather expressions in French. In this energetic French class, students will speak in the target language in complete sentences. They will be encouraged to speak by repeating after the teacher, signing songs to reinforce new vocabulary with the teacher, and engaging with other students in the class through facilitated conversations in French. The teacher will use a slide show so the students have a visual reference during class. After each class, the teacher will send the students a list of vocabulary words we did in class so they may practice at home in between class periods. Learning these basic phrases are a skill necessary when traveling or learning a language. In addition to learning how to talk about the days of the week, months, dates, and weather, students will have a culture piece each class. They will learn about a different French city at the start of each class. This is a great course for beginner students, or students who need to review these ideas in French. Class 1: Days of the Week Class 2: Days of the Week Class 3: Months of the Year, numbers 1-31 Class 4: Months of the Year, numbers 1-31 Class 5: Seasons and Weather Class 6: Seasons and Weather Students will learn about the cities Lyon, Avignon, Nantes, Marseilles, Aix-en-Provence, and Nice.

I have lived for a year in Aix-en-Provence, France where I taught ESL in a private school. I have also traveled to Quebec, Canada 4 times with my middle school students. In the classroom for over 10 years, I have been required to teach about over 20 francophone countries as a requirement of the Virginia Standards of Learning for French. In addition, my classes always follow the National Foreign Language Association’s 5 C’s of language learning, which includes culture.
