In this one-time course, students will play a game which demonstrates how interest groups gain members.

Class experience

Students will learn more about interest groups as well as the three main things that interest groups offer in order to gain members: material benefits, solidarity benefits, and expressive benefits.
I have taught political science as a full-time job at the college level since 2005. I have used this game in a variety of my classes.
Learners will not need any outside supplies.
All of the interest groups in the game will be hypothetical, but they will tie into real life issues such as environmental concerns, gun regulation, and workers' rights.

Students joining interest groups that give "material benefits" will watch short funny videos in a breakout room. The videos shown will be listed under the "external resources" section.

Students joining interest groups that give the "solidarity benefits" will get a compliment from a random compliment generator (also listed in the external resources section.
