“Wish Outcome Obstacle Plan (WOOP) is a systematic way to increase motivation and change behavior. It is based on 20 years of research in the science of motivation and it presents a unique and surprising idea: The obstacles that we think most impede us from fulfilling our wishes can actually help us to realize them. WOOP instructs us to dream our future dreams but then to identify and imagine what inner obstacles or hindrances of reality prevent us from achieving these dreams. WOOP gives us direction and energy to fulfill our wishes and solve our concerns.” -- Gabriele Oettingen During this class, students will learn how to implement WOOP as a tool to help improve grades, decrease procrastination, reduce stress, increase engagement, improve time management, and more, so that they can accomplish the things they really want or need to do. --Students will be able to define WOOP --Students will learn the benefits of WOOP --Students will understand why WOOP works --Students will review examples of how to use WOOP --Students will complete a WOOP exercise for a tasks, goal, or wish --Students will engage in a review activity to confirm understanding Students will need a pen or pencil, blank paper for notes, and the worksheet attached to the class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello Friends!
It is so lovely to meet you! My name is Lavontte Chatmon and I have over 15 years of experience working with youth of varying ages in a wide range of areas, including teaching literacy and other school-based skills, teaching English as a second language, coaching volleyball, and coaching elementary school Destination Imagination teams. I currently provide therapy and psychological services to children of all ages (and adults) and train and supervise victim advocates for a nonprofit organization. I have a Bachelors Degree in Human Relations and a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology. I am currently working on completing a Doctorates Degree in Clinical Psychology as well. In addition to the aforementioned degrees, I have various professional certificates in mental health, teaching, and other fields.
I like to think of myself as a lifelong learner who enjoys sharing the wealth of knowledge I acquire, especially with youth. This is why I am very excited to utilize Outschool as a platform to teach youth about skills for success in the domains of education, life, and relationships which include topics such as organization, time management, conflict resolution, teamwork, creative thinking, effective communication, self-esteem, emotional self-awareness, and stress management, to name a few. I believe that my personal and professional background, education, and experience give me a unique perspective as it relates to personal growth -- and I want to pass on these nuggets of information to as many children and teenagers as I can.
As passionate as I am about learning and teaching -- I equally value having experiences and doing things purely for enjoyment every now and again. Though, admittedly, I see these as learning opportunities too! A few of the things I enjoy are as follows: traveling, reading dystopian novels, watching Korean dramas, dancing, hot yoga, and learning languages (currently learning Korean and Spanish). I hope to bring some of these elements into my classes as I believe learning should be engaging, fun, and inclusive.
With Gratitude,
Ms. Lavontte Chatmon, MA
