What's included

1 live meeting
45 mins in-class hours per week
Homework
1 hour per week. Optional: -Learners may choose to complete the writing that they started in class -Learners may choose to turn in their writing for feedback
Assessment
Learners will be assessed two ways: 1) participation in class 2) final draft of writing (optional, Learners may turn in their final draft after class in the classroom or by private communication)

Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 7
Each week students will practice a different writing method or genre. Each class will begin with a quick mini-lesson on the genre or method of writing for the week. Students will then be given a prompt. The class will work together to brainstorm ideas. The final part of class will be focused on getting students started on their writing. 

Writing Prompts will vary based on the topic of the week. The information needed to fully and completely answer prompts will also be provided.
Students may also post to the classroom ideas about what they might like to write about. These ideas may be voted on by students and may appear in future classes.

Parental Guidance
The Book Review and Movie Review Days are days that require the graphic organizer. These two types of writing are quite formulaic and require a specific format. Single Learner Classes: - Single learner classes will go ahead as scheduled unless learner and family request otherwise. - If the lesson ends early, learners will have writing time at the end of class.

A handout on the writing form of the week will be provided.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
