The "Workplace Preparedness for High Schoolers" class is designed to introduce and equip learners with essential skills they will need as they transition from high school or college to the workplace. High Schoolers tend to focus on mastering the technical requirements needed to pursue their chosen career, however there are key skills employers expect graduating students to have in order to excel in the workplace (remote, telework, and or in-person). The class topics are: 1. Professional Presence and Interactions 2. Proactive Anticipation and Preparedness 3. Task and Priority Management 4. Conflict Resolution and Communication Class structure: The first 5 minutes will include Introduction to class and "I want to be a ___ or my college major is___" question. Using Power Point Slides learners are going to learn about each topic, why they are learning it (the relevance), what right looks like and what it's not, examples of how to develop the skill and how learners can apply in life. 1. Professional Presence and Interactions 2. Proactive Anticipation and Preparedness 3. Task and Priority Management 4. Conflict Resolution and Communication On average each topic will take 8-10 minutes with roughly 2 minutes per topic for questions.
Learning Goals
Learners will know the importance of making a lasting impression, how to maintain a professional appearance, communicate effectively, and exude confidence in the workplace.
Learners will know how to anticipate, be proactive, and navigate challenges, resolve conflicts, and stay ahead of trends in the workplace.

I have extensive (over 35 years) experience working in an office environment. I started at the very entry (high school) level and progressed to senior management. Throughout my career I was fortunate to have formal and informal mentors who taught me the skills needed to be successful and to excel to the next level. As I progressed in my career through new positions/roles I obtained the knowledge, skills and experience by working in diverse settings with new managers, teammates and stakeholders. I have had training in and have utilized the skills in public speaking, presenting, and facilitating. I have also had training in conflict resolution, creative problem solving, effective communication, project management, time-management, and professional presence. I hold a B.S. in Business Management, MBA, Project Management Professional, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, Chief Operating Officer Certificate from MIT, and DE&I Certificates from Cornell.
