US Grade 1 - 4
Beginner Level
What Will Be Taught? Animation Basics: Your child will learn how to animate text and images using Scratch, including making letters wiggle, bounce, and change colors. Interactive Features: Students will add fun Thanksgiving-themed elements like a dancing turkey, falling pumpkins, and customizable backgrounds to make their card unique. Coding Fundamentals: Children will grasp foundational coding concepts like sequencing, event handling, and loops. They’ll learn how to control the movement of characters and objects on the screen. What Topics Will You Cover? Scratch Interface: Getting familiar with the Scratch workspace and tools. Animation Techniques: Creating movement, text animation, and simple character animation. Interactive Design: Adding buttons, clickable elements, and more to make the card interactive. Creative Thinking: How to incorporate festive designs, colors, and Thanksgiving themes into their card. How is Your Class Structured? The class will be hands-on and interactive, with plenty of opportunities for children to experiment, ask questions, and receive feedback. We'll start by introducing the basics of Scratch, followed by live demonstrations of each animation technique. After each demo, students will get time to practice and create their own Thanksgiving cards, with real-time assistance from the instructor. The class will wrap up with a sharing session where kids can present their projects, celebrate their creations, and get feedback from both the teacher and their peers. How Will You Teach? The class will be project-based, meaning students will work on creating their own Thanksgiving cards step by step. Live demonstrations of coding concepts and animations will be given at the beginning of the class, followed by independent work time where students can practice the techniques demonstrated. I will provide guidance and support throughout the class, answering any questions, troubleshooting, and helping students overcome challenges as they create their projects. What’s Your Teaching Style? My teaching style is engaging, supportive, and fun! I aim to make learning interactive and enjoyable while maintaining a clear focus on teaching coding skills in an accessible way. I believe in hands-on learning, so kids will spend most of the class actively working on their own projects. I strive to create a positive, encouraging classroom environment where kids feel comfortable experimenting with their ideas and are motivated to keep learning. How Much Will Learners Get to Interact with You? I’ll be present throughout the class to answer questions, provide feedback, and guide the students as they work on their projects. The class will feature live demonstrations, where I’ll show how to code and animate specific features of the card. There will also be a Q&A session where students can ask for help with specific challenges or ideas they want to explore. Students will get plenty of one-on-one attention during the class, with opportunities for personalized guidance. Towards the end of the class, I’ll invite students to share their animated cards and provide constructive feedback.
