Terry Pratchett was a wizard of the Fantasy genre. He created an unparalleled world of magic, witches, police officers, a giant turtle and adventures galore. **Feel Free to message us to join any of the already started classes and we can make that happen. This is a 10 week Multi-Day Course covering 5 novels of the Discworld Series. These five novels are about the young witch Tiffany Aching who solves mysteries, saves princes all while becoming a witch. We will read 1 novel over 2 weeks and discuss what we discovered. My expectation for each student is that they will bring one question to ask the class. Questions allow us to "Campfire" what we have been reading and allow us to engage deeper with our understanding of the novel. Each class I will start with a tidbit of information and some background about the novel or the author that might aid us in the discussion of the book. We will round table our impressions of the book and everyone will have a turn to ask their question of the group. I will keep time to make sure everyone has a chance to be heard. In the classroom you will find a "Where we are at this week" posts every week and a list of things to consider. I will be posting a book review sheet for each novel we read along with a vocabulary/idiom/interesting thing I read that made me laugh out loud sheet and a word find or crossword. If you don't want to fill it out, that is just fine, these are just ways of keeping track of the things we learn and share. As well as discussing character development, story arc, setting and literary devices, we will encourage each other to keep reading! Also, we are all about inclusive learning. If your learner is using the audiobook instead of a reading copy of the book, please let me know so I can give you a middle point as a time in the file. If students would like to write and have their writing assessed, I can do so as well. At Week 8 we will begin discussing our Book Report project. This project can be any form of reflection on the readings be it a multimedia presentation to a poem or a collage! Anything goes. The important thing is to think over the books and the development of the main character and share elements that were the most important to you, the learner.
Learning Goals
*This course directly relates to B.C. Curricular Competencies for ELA Grades 4-12 under Comprehend and connect (reading, listening, viewing) Create and communicate (writing, speaking, representing).
