Class experience

US Grade 5 - 8
Students will gain knowledge of influential teenagers throughout history.
Students will be able to analyze, discuss, and apply then lives of influential teens throughout history to their own lives.
I graduated from the McKay School of Education at Brigham Young University with a B.A. in History Teaching and a minor in English Teaching. I have taken multicultural education classes provided through Brigham Young University. I have taught history (including United States history) to diverse children three years in public and charter schools. I have a teaching certificate for History and English. I am currently beginning my Masters in Learning and Instructional Design (a program dedicated to curriculum design and methodology) with an emphasis on Online Learning and Educational Technology. I am passionate about history (I've wanted to be a history teacher since 5th grade!). I grew up in Virginia, visiting the Smithsonian, Jamestown, Civil War battlefields, and other museums and historical landmarks for field trips. I am passionate about the youth today and their potential. My earliest students are now in their early twenties and I love seeing the stamp they've already made in this world. I also have children of my own and teach them that they can do or be anything they set their mind to.
As per the topic of the Civil Rights Movement, there is some racism that both of these teenagers had to overcome. However, all topics are handled with care, from the perspective of these teenagers themselves. Respect is given for all people and appropriate school-aged language is used.
I use interviews from Claudette Colvin and Barbara Johns as well as their own articles to make sure I present the information from their perspective and point of view. I also use numerous news articles from all over the media bias spectrum and peer-reviewed historical sources.
