FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE CLASS - no live sessions, but teacher is responsive to student inquiries and will review all homework submitted with feedback. Students will review a video each week (posted on Vimeo--not YouTube), complete their assignment and upload the assignment for teacher review and feedback. Students will also have to provide feedback each week to at least one classmate's uploaded homework and/or one teacher-posted question to the class (teacher will post the requirement for the week on the class's week start date--Monday or Sunday depending on the section). This course is 2 weeks shorter than the live course due to the lack of time needed for live class discussion of topics. This course will walk students through preparing for their financial future from choosing a career (with guidance of a career aptitude test and salary data), to understanding their paycheck deductions, creating and managing a budget, planning for their short- and long-term needs, and providing for their longer term goals. The course is part lecture, part research and part discussion. Students will begin to see the impact of their decisions, and the risks involved in common life decisions. Students who struggle with fractions, decimals and multiplication may find some of the course content challenging. Topics covered will include: * Money Management (goal setting, decision making, spending plan & budget, money management tips) * Credit Concepts regarding Borrowing (application process, loans, credit cards, costs, credit score, debt, rights & responsibilities) * Earning Power and Careers (earning potential, career plan, life stages, employee benefits, take-home pay, lifestyle) * Saving and Investing (options, risks & rewards, time value of money, diversification) * Banking and Credit Unions (account types, fees, service options, transaction tracking, automation, identify protection) * Insurance (risk management, costs-claims, insurance types, coverage decisions, insurability factors) Homework will include mostly research and assignments related to their personal life plans facilitated through the course.

Parental Guidance
Parents should know that the career students choose to work through during the course will teach them a lot about what they think life will be like with their chosen career. The goal is for the students to see the impact of decisions. Sometimes, they learn through this course that the path they desire comes with some life impacts they won't enjoy! I ask that parents be open-minded about their students choices during the course.
Parents should be open to hearing information on topics that they may or may not have been exposed to in their financial life. I am always available by e-mail to clarify anything that may sound "off" coming from your student--but I HEAVILY encourage families to discuss course topics at home once they are covered in class!
Supply List
BASIC calculator (should be available during class) Paper for note-taking during video lectures Writing utensil Access to the internet (home or library) to look up information for homework assignments and watch videos (on Vimeo). Students will SOMETIMES be given links to help for research, but will often have to find information themselves (which is part of their learning process)
