Class Experience

This class is meant to help teens understand and recognize negative thoughts that come from making a mistake or trying to be perfect. I include stories of famous historical people like Walt Disney, Thomas Eddison, Michael Jordan, JK Rowling, and many other inventors and mistakes they made or let downs they had along with stories of things that were made from mistakes like fireworks. I will also be teaching the students about neuroplasticity in the brain. We will learn 7 different things that we can do to feel better when we make mistakes and overcome negative thinking, and we will practice ways to reframe our negative thinking when we make a mistake.
The course encourages interaction between the students and the teacher, including practicing challenging our negative thinking. My slides use visual based learning techniques with videos and pictures to help the students remember what we are learning. I encourage students to practice making mistakes, challenging their unhelpful thoughts outside of their class, and teach their families what they learned.
