Class Experience

Learning to perform is an important part of learning to play the piano. In this class, students will have the opportunity to showcase a song they have been learning in their private or group piano class. They will get practice hints to help them improve their playing. This class is focused on performance only. It is not a substitute for their private or group piano class.
This class will help students get used to playing for an audience. It will also help them learn how to make a song performance ready.
During the duration of the class, each student will independently make a video of themselves performing the song they have been practicing. They will share the video with the other students and the teacher by uploading it on the Outschool classroom page. The teacher will include a demonstration of how to upload the video.
This flex class is open for four weeks. During the duration of the class, students can expect the following each week:
1. This week we will focus on learning the notes and rhythms of our recital song. The teacher will send a video with tips for helping you improve.
2. For week two, we will focus on the dynamics and articulation of your recital song. The teacher will send you a review sheet of what to look for in your song. You will look at your music and see if any of the symbols are in your song.
3. In week three we will work on memorizing your song. You will get some helpful tips from the teacher as a post on the classroom page for how to memorize your recital song.
4. In week four you will make a video performing your song! The teacher will be listening for how well you were able to follow the tips for accurate notes and rhythm, good dynamics and articulation, and if you were able to memorize your song.
Students will receive feedback on their video submission from the teacher. Other students will also be able to give the students positive feedback on their performance.
I look forward to helping you get ready to perform!

I have been teaching for over 15 years. I graduated from Southern Utah University with my degree in Music Education in 2003. Starting in 2004, I taught private voice and piano lessons to students. In 2014, I began teaching music at a local elementary school.
In my classroom, I have taught singing, rhythm games, recorder, ukulele, music theory and how to write your own song! I love sharing my love of music with my students.

I also enjoy musical theater. I have done several communtiy theater productions. I have been privileged to play the roles of Mrs. Potts in "Beauty and the Beast," Jack's Mother in "Into the Woods," Mabel in "The Pirates of Penzance," and Kim in "Bye, Bye BIrdie."

I love to listen to rock and roll on the radio. My favorite music group is The Beatles!

In 2017, I began tutoring ESL students in the basics of English grammar, reading, and conversation. I love working with young people from all around the world.
