In this on-going class, students will practice singing and sight-reading Taylor Swift songs at the piano, for students who are reading at lesson book level 3 or above.

In each class, we will learn how to play a fun Taylor Swift song on piano. Each lesson will include:

As a teacher with over twenty years of experience, I have been running my own piano studio full-time for the last decade. I started learning music in piano lessons when I was four years old and am currently teaching my 15th academic year as a piano teacher. I also am a former public school art teacher, university adjunct professor, swim instructor, dance teacher, and math tutor.
The Suzuki method is at the core of many of my ideas about teaching music. Shin’ichi Suzuki believed that music is like a language and therefore should be taught like one-- learning to speak before reading and writing and that learning should take place in a loving and supportive environment, with constant repetition, and with helpful modeling from the parents. Like Montessori, the Suzuki philosophy is student-centered, includes lots of learning games and enjoyable activities, and demands that learning activities be planned according to the student's needs and level of development.Homework Offered
Students at this ability level typically practice at least 4 times per week for at least 30 minutes per practice. Daily practice is recommended! Check the Outschool classroom after class for extra assignments.2 - 4 hours per week outside of class

Students should have attended piano lessons or used a music learning app for multiple years and be able to read sheet music at or above lesson book level 3 in any method book series. Message me if you're not sure of your learner's level.

To fully participate in any music class, it's best to check your audio settings in Zoom first! Parents will also be expected to assist with at home practice throughout the week. Absolutely NO EATING during class. Learners will need the constant use of both of their hands as well as to engage with their full attention. Learners who are eating on camera may be asked to leave. I may screenshare games I have made in Google Drive and Scratch to review music theory concepts if we have time in class. Please make sure your learner has purchased all sheet music linked under 'Supplies.' If your learner is reading off an iPad, be sure the material is legible from the piano keyboard! I recommend purchasing a subscription to Everand.com (30 day free trial). This website is a hosting service for uncensored books, audiobooks, music, podcasts, etc. Parental guidance is recommended for students intending to browse the site independently. Note: a few of Taylor Swift's songs include some explict lyrics. I will be singing the "edited" PG version, but parents intending to avoid swear words completely may want to pause when we play Vigilante S*** and Karma in the book MIDNIGHTS.
