🎶 𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗗&𝗗 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝘂𝗻, 𝗧𝗮𝘆𝗹𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗴𝗮𝗺𝗲!🎶 Welcome to Taylandia, the land where Taylor Swift’s music turns to magic and each era has come to life. The Queen of Taylandia, Taylor Swift herself, needs saving. A curse has been put on her placing her in an endless sleep in the Midnights Castle. Without her awake to rule the land, things are starting to crumble--1989 City’s skyscrapers are falling, the leaves of Redland’s neverending Autumn have finally died, and the giant snake that slithers beneath Repville has escaped. It’s up to our players to collect important items from each era to break the curse and save Taylor Swift’s music. You’ll work alongside the important characters in her stories and battle those trying to get in her way (including her evil exes) as you travel to each land. 𝑨𝒓𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒚 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒊𝒕? 🎶 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀/𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝘀𝗶𝘇𝗲: We like to get around five players in a campaign, but will begin with as few as three! Once the campaign starts, the teacher will use his/her/their discretion to open to class up for new learners to enroll-- we want to make sure everyone feels like there's enough time to get started and settled during their first class, which would be tricky if the campaign was in the middle of a high-stakes combat or similar. 𝙄𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙨𝙚𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙨 𝙖𝙨 𝙖𝙫𝙖𝙞𝙡𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙚𝙣𝙧𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩, 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙩-𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙩'𝙨 𝙖 𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙮𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙤 𝙟𝙤𝙞𝙣 𝙞𝙣! Players are also not required to remain enrolled in the class through the campaign's conclusion, though we would ask that you let us know if you anticipate needing to bow out after a certain number of weeks or after a specific date. 🎶 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗗&𝗗? Fantastic! We're excited for your player to join us. D&D is not only loads of fun, but is a great way to practice cooperative problem solving, character development, and story strategy. Plus, it's all Taylor-swift themed, so you know it'll be the best! When you enroll in this class, the teacher will send you a character sheet to create your Level One character. Don't worry if you need a little hand-holding, here-- the teacher is happy to reach out and help you. 🎶 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀/𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁? D&D campaigns vary quite a lot since it all comes down to the player's decisions, which is why this is a weekly class rather than a course with a set number of weeks. That said, this specific campaign is wonderfully designed to be episodic. Anticipate about four to five weeks for the first Taylandia segment/album, at which point players may opt to move on to the second segment/album with the same group or wrap the campaign up entirely and end the class. If the players are loving their group and want to continue, we want to make sure we're able to keep things moving! 🎶 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲: We'll spend the first ten minutes or so with greetings and hellos, as well as recap what happened in the previous week. If there are new players joining us on a given week, we might spend a bit more time getting them linked in with the campaign. 🎶 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗲𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗿: Respect: All players and the Dungeon Master must be treated with respect. Listening and valuing everyone's input is crucial! Inclusion: Our table is is a space for everyone. Discrimination or bullying of any kind will not be tolerated-- that includes "it's not me, it's the character!" justifications for discrimination. Collaboration: D&D is a team game. Support your fellow adventurers and work together to overcome the challenges you'll face. Remember-- there are no main characters in a D&D campaign! Patience: Learning D&D can take time. Be patient with yourself and others as you learn the rules and gameplay. Also, keep in mind that not everyone approaches the game the same way-- some love to "min/max" characters with efficiency in mind, while others prioritize the character arc itself. There's no wrong way to approach it! Creativity: Feel encouraged to be creative in your problem-solving and role-playing. There are no wrong answers in the world of D&D, only new adventures. Kindness: While there is inevitably some violence in a D&D campaign, gratuitous and graphic violence is not our thing. Rest assured that this campaign will be a PG-13 setting.

Below are my general classroom rules and policies. These will also be explained to students when we begin class!
⚔️For everyone's safety, and to ensure an engaging and social experience, 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀, 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺. Please be sure to prepare your student for this requirement before class begins!
⚔️Students are asked not to use filters or virtual backgrounds-- the blur background is perfectly fine, but the others tend to flicker and flash quite a lot!
⚔️Students will be asked to introduce themselves by sharing their name, pronoun, and a favorite book.

𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗲 (founder and teacher):
I'm the author of sixteen books for tweens and teens, including the 𝘗𝘪𝘱 𝘉𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘵'𝘴 𝘎𝘶𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘔𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘊𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴 series (Scholastic), the 𝘌𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘦, 𝘌𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘳 series (Bloomsbury), and the 𝘋𝘰𝘶𝘣𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘴 series (Bloomsbury). My books are published in twenty-three languages around the world, and have won multiple state and national awards. I have taught creative writing classes across the country at schools, libraries, colleges, and camps, and have taught over 7000 online students! I also have a bachelor's in English from the University of Georgia.
I have taught creative writing classes, camps, and seminars for kids for over ten years. My approach is to teach creative writing as play— something that is to be enjoyed, experimented with, and shared. Too often I find that students are their own worst critics; I aim to remind them that there’s value and fun to be had in everything you write, whether it’s good, bad, or in-between.
My classes are fun, informative, and engaging, and I genuinely love helping students uncover or hone their writing talents. Students are encouraged to speak and ask questions during class, and I do my best to relate the material to their likes, dislikes, and interests so they connect better with the coursework. I love teaching Wings of Fire classes, as well as book club classes!

In addition to spending seven years as a sixth grade teacher, I’ve taught kindergarten, preschool, and worked extensively with middle and high school writers as a tutor. I have a Master’s in Elementary Education and a B.A. in English, both from Lehigh University.
Oh yeah, and I’m the author of nine novels for teens and tweens, as well as the momma of three impish Schmidtlets. I’m looking forward to connecting with young writers and readers. My goal for my students is always for them to Grow and Glow—knowing it’s safe to try hard and take risks, while feeling good about what they accomplish. My teaching style is dynamic optimism and I can’t wait to write together!

Emma K. Ohland has been telling stories since before she knew how to write them down. She grew up in the middle of a cornfield in Indiana, but her imagination often carried her away to other worlds. When she’s not writing, reading, or smelling books, she enjoys traveling, crocheting, D&D, and snuggling with her rescue greyhound. She is the award-winning author of FUNERAL GIRL as well as her upcoming novel HERE GOES NOTHING, and her work is featured in the short story anthology OUT THERE. Before publishing, she was an admissions officer of a top 50 university where she read and made decisions on over 5,000 student applications. Along with writing, she is also a private college counselor where she helps students gain admission by crafting strong personal narratives utilizing storytelling techniques. Her students have been accepted into top schools such as the UCs, Columbia, Johns Hopkins, University of Michigan, UT Austin, Northeastern, and more.

𝗡𝗲𝗹𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗻:
I have been a high school music teacher for fifteen years, and a high school history and English teacher for the last eleven years. In that time, I have taught a wide variety of classes including Percussion Methods, Geography, U.S. History, AP World History, AP European History, AP Art History, and AP English Language. I also serve as a College Board reader in AP European History, so the arts and humanities are a passion as well as my professional field of expertise. During the last decade, I have been my school's teacher of the year and a semi-finalist for county teacher of the year as well. I hold a B.A. in History with a minor in French and a Master of Education degree, all from the University of Georgia.
As an educator, I love to cultivate curiosity, and focus on educating in a way that is both entertaining and connective to other learning and life experiences we have - learning does us much more good when it is something that we can use and share with others! For that reason, I really believe in making learning a dialogue, and something that is shared.
In addition to teaching language arts classes in Jackson’s organization, I also teach a variety of history classes on Outschool! Find more information on those here: https://outschool.com/teachers/Nelson-Dean
