Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 3
Beginner Level
This is a one time class- 1 to 1 class which teaches English ESL through drawing.
Drawing is a fun, relaxing way to learn new English vocabulary and boost confidence in speaking English.
If you can't see a suitable time on my schedule then feel free to send me a message, as I have some flexibility in my schedule.

In this class drawing is used as the starting point for discussion. No need to be an artist, just relax, draw, talk and have fun with me!

🗣️
In the lesson we will draw the chosen topic together ( drawing instructions given by me if needed) we will use this drawing as a talking point. New vocabulary will be taught and speaking in full sentences encouraged through gentle guidance. We can draw on the screen on a shared whiteboard and on a piece of paper.
At the end of the class we will have a show and tell time, talking about our pictures and the new words we have learnt.
You can suggest topics to draw and talk about or you can choose from the list below;

🎨
-Maps- fantasy or my town
-Cupcakes and food
-Bluey and pets
-Cat unicorns and animal talk
-Draw a surprise Pikachu
-Ariel and under the sea
-Jungle animals
-Dinosaurs and nature
-Minions and clothes
-Squishmallows and appearance.

🎉 Parents, is your child a little shy in ESL class? This class can help them overcome the initial anxiety of talking. I love to encourage children to learn through play and art.
Did you know studies show that drawing information is a strategy which can enhance memory. Studies show we recall twice as many drawn as written words, regardless of artistic skill.
🎉Lots of encouragement and support is given, I will gently encourage discussion through art.
I am a friendly and very patient person, I would love to see you in my class soon!.

Teacher expertise and credentials
After many happy years teaching in English primary schools for many years, I became an ESL (English as a second language ) tutor to children from all over the world but mainly from China and Japan. I have been so lucky to meet so many wonderful students and their families.

Subjects taught;
-I offer 1 to 1 ESL(English as a second language) classes. I make a personalised plan for each student.
My 'Talk and Draw' class for ESL children is a great way to practice speaking English in a fun, relaxed way.

-I also offer reading and comprehension tutoring for young learners (age 3 to 9) I teach using the systematic phonic approach to crack the code of reading! I also teach the 'tricky' or 'high frequency words' My lessons develop confidence in reading and fluency. They are also lots of fun!
These classes are also very suitable for ESL learners

Here are my credentials;
-BA with honours degree in Psychology and Sociology from The University of Liverpool
-PGCE (Post GraduateCertificate in Education) from Southampton
-Primary School teacher (Early years foundation stage specialist) with experience in teaching phonics to young children.
-Childcare Assessor
-Private teacher. Teaching English as a second language.

I'm very excited to tutor even more children here on Outschool!

I have helped many children gain confidence to speak and read English some children didn't speak a word of English when I first met them. My teaching style is relaxed and very supportive. The best way to learn English is by using it, so my students are encouraged to speak in full sentences and talk as much as possible.

I am VERY patient and I will give my students time to answer and form the sentences firstly in their mind before speaking; this is so important when learning a new language. But if your child is struggling I will help them by giving them a clue for example the beginning sound of the word they need. Finally, I will help them with the answer. Confidence to talk is key.
I believe learning should be fun and engaging, no one wants to come to a boring lesson!

Parents like my encouraging and supportive lessons, children like my friendly, calm and fun classes.. We will use games, songs, props as well as interactive power points. I believe in using a range of teaching styles though out my lessons. For example, sometimes the children will be singing, using actions or writing on a whiteboard. Just like they would do in a real classroom.
I also find out what my students like to engage them even more. If your child is a Bluey fan, no problem, we will talk about Bluey in class in an age and level appropriate way to encourage their conversation skills.
I am quick to assess new learners and ensure the level appropriate content is taught. I have regular show and tell sessions so my students can show me a favourite toy or book and practice using their English in a relaxed way.
My classroom is a place where children are encouraged and supported.

When I'm not teaching, you can usually find me at our local beach here on the Isle of Wight. The Isle of Wight is a small island in the UK. IT's only 26 miles across, you can walk from one end of the island to the other in a day!
I also love swimming in the sea with my friends and walking my little dog Mabel.
I love to travel, my last trip was to Japan where I visited Mount Fuji!
