Class Experience

Table manners are important and shows respect for others. Teaching good table manners to kids will help your child’s social skills to navigate through school, friends and empower them with the confidence to grasp the art of talking, listening and observing. They are best learned when children are still young so they become a habit for life. Using manners at the table is all about taming impulsivity. And because willpower and self-restraint are recognized predictors of success in life, they're worth nurturing. Table manners are the right way to begin teaching these skills.

Whether you’re eating at home, dining out, or having dinner with friends, good table manners for kids are an important part of every meal. When you teach your child good table manners, you are giving them important tools for social interaction that will serve them for the rest of their lives.
Laying the groundwork for good etiquette at the dinner table means your children will more likely become pleasant dinner companions for family meals in the years to come. And you'll feel comfortable allowing them to have a meal at a friend or relative's house, knowing they have good table manners.

We will cover:
- how to properly set a table
- proper mealtime discussion
- appropriate topics and mealtime language
- how to use conversation while eating
- how to politely ask for or refuse food being offered
- rude vs. positive behaviors
- how to help clean up/assist after eating
- restaurant and buffet etiquette

My teaching style is interaction and and I love input from students. They will be encouraged to participate and share what they may already know about table manners.

Student will be given visuals and examples for table setting and encouraged to use materials at home to follow along and set their own table. I will provide reasoning and proper examples for table setting, as well as a printable guide to use at home, after class ends.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to recognize positive and negative table time manners and behaviors and how to make sure we are making good mealtime choices that will impress their fellow diners, as well as mom and dad!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello friends! I am teacher Jo F and I am absolutely fascinated with the intricacies of spoken language skills and comprehension in English and Spanish. I love teaching the details of language for better understanding of what is being said and, consequently, comprehension of what is actually being communicated.

I have a Masters in Education and am a licensed teacher in English, Spanish, and English as a Second Language for K - 12. I have taught children from preschool through high school for over 25 years with experience in the classroom, homeschool classroom, online classroom, and community education. I have also taught not only in the United States, but in Mexico as well.
My core belief is that student learning comes from patience and a positive attitude.
Therefore, I will always do my best to advance a student's learning through a climate that is friendly, interactive, and that supports as well as encourages a students’ learning and understanding.
When I mentioned that I taught school in Mexico, well, more than that happened. I met and married my husband in Mexico. We now have two daughters, two little dogs, and four small grandchildren.
