What is symmetry? Where can I find it? As adults, we are familiar with the concept of linear symmetry and can easily recognize it. Children may not recognize it at first, but are sure to be able to identify it with a little practice. In this class, I will explain linear (reflectional) symmetry and then we will brainstorm examples we see everyday (and I'll share prepared examples). Then, we will have some creative fun making our symmetry monsters! (Parents will need to prepare their child's paper for this project before we start - it will take 2 mins. to do this :-)).
Learning Goals
The children will learn about one of the simplest forms of geometric symmetry - linear/reflectional symmetry. They will learn how to recognize it in nature and the world around them.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi there! Thanks for checking out my bio. I'm a homeschooling mom of two girls in New Hampshire as well as the director of and tutor for our local homeschool co-op, and I love it! As much as my daughters love taking classes on Outschool, I figured, 'Why not teach through Outschool myself?' So.....here I am.
I have a BS in Public Policy from Penn State and a Masters In City Planning from Univ. of Florida but have been homeschooling for 8 years and really enjoy teaching. I can be a little out-of-the-box - whatever it takes to make the kids feel comfortable and have fun and further their investment in the class and what we're learning.
I will never forget all the classes I've taken back in my school days (many, many moons ago) where the instructor just droned on and on and on...and I vow not to let that happen.
I teach classes/offer clubs in the following subjects:
Reading comprehension
Storytime
Elementary math
Logic puzzles
Dictation
Scavenger hunt
Spelling Bee
Lunch Bunch
I Can Draw the 7 Continents!
Looking forward to seeing you in a class in the near future :-).
