Are you a Swiftie? Do you enjoy reading and games? If so, you'll enjoy this 4 week Swiftie themed phonics and spelling class! In this class, students will do fun phonics activities that incorporate Taylor Swift's song titles and isolated words from her lyrics! Activities include, phonics chaining using words from her songs, Making Words (making smaller words out of song titles to guess the song title!), Word Sorts, and digital phonics board games. All of these activities assist in improving phonics, spelling, reading, and vocabulary skills. This class is perfect to supplement other literacy lessons. It makes for a great review for some students while also teaching new skills to other students! Let's use our love of Taylor Swift to reinforce and grow your phonics skills! If you want it to last more than 4 weeks, don't fret! I'll create more classes upon request! Week of February 12th: Our Word Ladder and Making Words activities will be LOVER themed. Bring something to write with and write on! Week of February 19th: Our Making Words and board game will be REPUTATION themed! Bring something to write with and write on! Week of February 26th: Our Making Words, Word Ladder, and Word Sort will all be 1989 themed! Bring something to write with and write on! Week of March 4th: Our board game and Making Worlds will be RED themed!

Background:
I received my bachelor’s degree in special education and my master’s degree in reading. I am certified in early childhood education, mild-moderate disabilities, severe/profound disabilities, and I am a certified Reading Specialist. I taught in public schools for 12 years. I taught prek, kindergarten, 1st-3rd students with learning disabilities, and middle school students with learning disabilities.
I left the classroom to start my own reading tutoring business. I now solely tutor students in reading and teach on Outschool.
Philosophy:
I follow Science of Reading practices. I use a phonological awareness and phonics scope and sequence when instructing students. Lessons are customized to their reading needs.
I believe in play based, hands-on, multi-sensory learning. My primary goal is for students to have fun so they never feel like learning to read is a chore. I believe the ability to read is the most important thing. It opens doors, takes us on adventures, and provides us unlimited knowledge.
What I Teach:
I offer phonics classes for elementary students, book clubs for secondary students, and individual reading tutoring.
