US Grade 6 - 9
This is a four-day camp that teaches the student how to decipher a United States surface weather observation using the Metar coding format. This camp will teach the student how to decode a U.S. Metar surface weather observation. We will go over the Metar decoding key to get foundational information, then apply that knowledge directly to real-world current Metars on the Windy.com page in class. Discussion and practice of decoding of surface observations will take place in class. Day 1: Type of surface observation, date & time, location, and wind Day 2: Visibility, runway visual range, weather phenomena Day 3: Sky condition, temperature & dew point, and pressure Day 4: Remarks in the Metar observation format The desire of the teacher is to engage the student with questions and dialogue to help them further learn the material and answer questions. There will be no assigned homework in this class and the teaching style will be lecture via metar coding document, then discussion and application of the material will also be highly encouraged to gain a better understanding of the material.

The student will learn how to decode an U.S. surface weather observation, understand the material, and apply this information in real time with practice.
