Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - 5
Beginner - Advanced Level
Welcome to my digital classroom! I aspire to create personalized learning experiences for your child to do any/all of the following:

1. Help build learning confidence in a problem area or educational gap, regardless of the subject matter.
2. Challenge boredom by expanding education in a particular state standard/skill.
3. Provide an abundance of practice for any given concept.

I believe in a methodical approach to instruction, combined with some rote learning, as well as a gentle and persistent manner. Games, discussions, online worksheets, slides, props, etc. are things routinely used for my tutoring. These ongoing classes may either be canceled or fully subscribed at any given time. There is also a once-weekly meeting available for those students requiring less assistance. Please let me know of a time that is suitable for your needs, regardless of the class choice. Some homework may be assigned to help enforce a lesson, but always optional. I also firmly support complete transparency with all parents/guardians concerning the progress of their children: I will be happy to communicate regularly about what will be best for every precious learner.
Learning Goals
Students will receive personalized lessons to either help bridge any learning gaps in state standards or challenge them and break any chains of boredom in any given subject matter. ELA (English Language Arts) assistance may include (but is not limited to) phonemic awareness, phonics, blends, beginning reading strategies, building fluency, CVC words, diphthongs, reading comprehension, writing, grammar, ESL, spelling, vocabulary, sight/high-frequency words, etc. Math concepts may include (but are not limited to) counting/skip counting, beginning money, telling time, addition, subtraction, geometric shapes/patterns, measurements, beginning multiplication/division, etc. I will specifically communicate with the parent/guardian to find out which concepts to review or teach as the time comes to move on to another area.

My general class structure, modified from the traditional 5-step lesson plan is as follows:

1. Introductions, greetings, anticipatory set: establish rapport, build prior knowledge/confidence, identify learning objectives, connect to future instruction, and possible quizzes/drills (approximately 3-5 minutes).
2. Teaching new material(s) with guided practice: all learning modalities (tactile, visual, auditory, etc.) will be accommodated/modified during the lesson. I will introduce/review concepts via small lectures, discussions, online worksheets, slides, video clips, and other methods, checking for understanding along the way. I will also model any new skills (approximately 8-10 minutes).
3. Independent practice and closure: Review learning objectives and/or ask students to show what they know by playing a small game to reinforce any related concepts. Upon saying goodbye, I will remind the children that there is extra homework available to be printed out for even more practice if need be (approximately 10 minutes).

Learning Needs
I am extremely gentle and patient, possessing the ability to work with special needs. In the physical classroom, I learned to accommodate ADHD students, in addition to Special Day Class kids. I will simply transfer these tactics to online.
Parental Guidance
With the parent/guardian's permission, I will use curricula and games from the following websites: 1. Education.com 2. IXL.com 3. Khan Academy 4. Quizlet 5. YouTube 6. Canva 7. SplashLearn 8. ABCya! 9. Liveworksheets.com 10. Spelling City 11. Learning A-Z 12. Starfall.com 13. Safekidgames.com 14. Abcya.com 15. Roomrecess.com 16. Littlealchemy.com No accounts are required on the part of the parents/guardians. Students will be playing educational games and participating in online worksheets through screen sharing. Permission is requested for each child's gaming/learning process to be saved under the teacher's account: the parents/guardians will always know where their child is at in any given platform, as I will continually post and/or communicate all progress for full transparency. By diversifying websites, this will decrease boredom and encourage full lesson interaction/engagement. In addition, scissors may be needed for certain projects that are either for class, homework, or both sessions. If the child is not mature enough to do crafts with scissors, I will gladly swap out another safer project at the discretion of the parents/guardians.
Supply List
I recommend the following supplies for most sessions:

1. Whiteboards and dry-erase pens.
2. Pencil and paper or a notebook.
3. Scissors, a glue stick, and crayons or colored pencils.
4. For some assignments, the night before class: printable worksheets/crafts to do with me on Zoom.
5. Folder(s) to keep all assignments, assessments/progress, and/or PDFs.
6. An optional box/plastic bag to keep all supplies.
