Class Experience

During these lessons, we will look at each of the phonic letters of the alphabet beginning with 'A' and gradually moving to 'Z', the last letter in the English Alphabet. Initially, each lesson will last the duration of 30 minutes and will be aimed solely at young beginners. As time goes by and once the learner develops their confidence, these lessons will increase to 40 minutes.

Throughout these fun-packed and dynamic lessons, the emphasis will be on the pronunciation of individual phonic letters. Learners will then slowly move on to repeatedly pronounce and clearly understand simple English words beginning with that specific phonic letter. For example: 'A' is for 'Ant'. As the learner progresses and becomes more confident, they will then begin to create simple sentences incorporating these phonic words.

My educational background is one of being a fully qualified English classroom teacher for over 20 years, having taught in schools in both the United Kingdom and Australia. Over the last two years, I have gained the necessary experience to teach online English classes on a full-time basis. As I know that every student is different, my lessons cater for the auditory, visual and/or kinesthetic learner. My teaching philosophy is simple: I ensure that each lesson is enjoyable for the learner by dividing them into five sections. (1) Introduction - I sing an English song or nursery rhyme simply to for the student to relax. If they wish to join in, they can but this is optional and not compulsory. (2) A total of three Phonic letters will be taught and recited - students follow my lead as I slowly recite these individual phonic letters. By using and referring to regular powerpoint presentations as well as various other props and learning resources/tools to look at, they will practice pronouncing each phonic letter. (3) The introduction of simple words to match each of the phonic letters studied during the lesson. For example, 'B is for Bee'. (4) Matching activities and word games such as Letter/Word Bingo are played for the learners to have a little fun whilst reinforcing learning at the same time. (5) A review of the lesson where the learner will recap and revisit what they have learnt during the lesson.

Learners will soon notice that I frequently use TPR (Total Physical Response) during my lessons. I constantly use my hands in an attempt to enforce learning, as well as to encourage, motivate and offer positive praise to individual learners throughout each lesson. Furthermore, I use a wide range of props which young students can look at and refer to. Within each powerpoint presentation, learners will enjoy a small video clip associated with the phonic letters and words taught during the lesson.

As these classes are solely aimed at young beginners, your child is not required to have had any previous knowledge or experience in this subject. They may a total beginner and will therefore not be expected to enter any discussion with me during the lessons. I would like to stress that no pressure will be placed on them to answer any questions, until they feel confident to speak. All they are required to do is verbally copy me when I pronounce phonic letters and their accompanying words. As their confidence grows, so will their ability to speak in simple English sentences.

I will look forward to seeing your child in my class in the near-future.
Learning Goals
Learners will learn basic phonic letters and accompanying words beginning with these letters. Their aim is to develop their own confidence when repeatedly pronouncing each phonic letter and word. In time, they will be required to learn simple sentences which incorporate these words, showing both fluency and fluidity.
