Description

Class Experience

Learners will learn basic phonic letters and accompanying words beginning with these letters. Their aim is to develop their own confidence when repeatedly pronouncing each phonic letter and word. In time, they will be required to learn simple sentences which incorporate these words, showing both fluency and fluidity.
I have been a classroom teacher for over 20 years, teaching in High (Secondary) schools in both the U.K. and Australia where I have taught English, History, Geography and Religious Studies.
I studied at Bangor, University of North Wales where I graduated in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Joint Honours) in History and Religious Studies. In 1997, I successfully completed my Post Graduate Certificate of Education (P.G.C.E.) in History and shortly afterwards, I obtained my first teaching post at a local high/secondary school in Wales and remained there for 17 years before emigrating to Australia. I have been employed as an ESL teacher for over a year where I have worked for a number of online ESL companies teaching English to students between the ages of 5 to 45.
My interests include travelling as well as walking my dog "Charlie". I have a keen interest in Art and Architecture as well as learning about and experiencing different Cultures from all over the world. My greatest passion however is watching my beloved football/soccer team Liverpool Football Club!
Learners will be required to practice what they have learnt from the previous lesson. We will quickly recap over the phonic letters and words at the beginning of the following lesson.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Each unit will consist of 9 individual lessons. The learner will be assessed every three lessons in the form of a written report. The report will consist of two parts: Firstly, there will be a description as to what the learner has learnt over the three lessons. Secondly, it will include positive remarks and comments, as well as some individual targets which will be set for the learner. Every 10th lesson, the learner will be assessed on what they have learnt in lessons 1-9 in the form of a recap test. At the end of the test, they will be given an overall score and allocated an additional report clearly stating which areas they have performed well in. They will also be informed of the areas which require improvement and need additional work or support (if any).
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
