Class Experience

Does your child want to learn to play the violin? Do they enjoy learning with friends? Then this fun-filled level 1A violin class is for you! Each week, we will learn new violin skills to that by the end of the class, your child should be able to play several songs, read notes on the A and E string and more! I love making violin classes fun and use innovative new ways, including google slide games created by me, fun bowing and pizzicato exercises and more. We will move and groove to the music and learn to play a wide variety of styles of music including classical, folk, and pop. My classes are light hearted, yet we also 'get down to business!'
Each class is structured with an introduction/review, then working on techniques including bowing and scales, and moving on to working on our music and learning new songs. Then we say our 'see you laters' and students practice during the week. I provide a practice sheet that reviews what we did in class so that young musicians can review and practice their skills without forgetting, "What was I supposed to practice? Oh no, I can't find my book!" Everything you need will be provided and posted weekly. For this course, young musicians don't need to know anything about how to play the violin. I take it from the beginning.

Learning Goals

Students will learn how to care for their violins, as well as how to hold the violin and the bow. They will learn the parts of the violin and the bow. Young musicians will also learn how to place their fingers correctly on the strings so that their notes are in tune.
Students will be able to pizzicato and use the bow on several simple songs including Hot Cross Buns, Twinkle Twinkle, Frere Jacques and Ode to Joy along with more as the class progresses. First, they will learn to play the songs using pizzicato and the with their bow. They will first learn to read the notes to the songs using violin tabs and eventually notes. They will learn to read notes and play them on the E, and A strings. If time allows, they may even write their own song! Here is our schedule:

Lesson 1: What is a violin? Parts, care and plucking strings. The EGG Song. The DAD Song.
Lesson 2. How to hold the bow. How to stroke the bow on open strings using rhythms. Play your name game. .
Lesson 3. How to put fingers on the E string. Play notes with rhythms. Learn the notes on the E String. Start learning Twinkle!
Lesson 4. How to place fingers on A string. How to play an A scale. Learn more of Twinkle Twinkle.
