In this one time class students will be introduced to Impasto artwork through the use of Heavy Body acrylic paint to create a 3D texture sunflower.

If your learner wants to try Impasto style art, and wants to explore to boundaries in painting then this class is for them! In this class I will teach students: - How to create a textured sunflower - Introduce students to the technique of Impasto painting - Introduce Heavy Body acrylic paint - How to use a painting/palette knife to create 3D petals and leaves - The differences in pressure application - Composition - Paintbrush etiquette Impasto is a technique used in painting where paint is laid on an area of the surface in very thick layers; usually thick enough that the brush or painting-knife strokes are visible. When dry, impasto provides texture; the paint appears to be coming out of the canvas. -Wikipedia There are times I purposely create a mistake in order to show students how to recover from any painting mistakes that may occur during their artistic journey! This beautiful painting allows students to explore personal creativity-- no two flowers will be the same! I encourage students to make personal color choices to create an art piece unique to themselves.

Supply List
8x10 or 11x14 inch canvas for this project. This painting will be done vertically. White, Blue, dark green & bright yellow (fluid/regular) acrylic paint (I often use Apple Barrel or Craftsmart) Yellow Oxide (dark yellow) & Raw Umbra (dark brown) *HEAVY BODY* Acrylic paint for flower head. Brushes: 1 1 inch flat brush for background 1 painting knife (Can come in plastic. Picture included in attachment for class) Blow dryer Water jar Paper Towel Paper plate for paint palette *safe place to splash some paint!

My name is Tabitha, but most kids refer to me as Miss T.
I am looking forward to teaching young people how painting is unique to themselves as individuals, and that life lessons can stem from learning any kind of creative outlet. I personally believe that anyone can create artwork-- it just needs to be cultivated!
I was a studio art teacher for nearly 3 years having taught painting lessons to large groups of children as young as 3 years old to young adults 19+. I understand how to navigate through the discouragement that youths often feel when their art piece does not resemble someone else's that they deem "better," and teach them to see beyond the artwork and look at their own special skills and techniques.
In college I learned that history and science have big part to play in the art world therefore, I enjoy sprinkling "golden nuggets" of grammar and word origins into my art lessons.
In my spare time I think, read classic literature & children's fantasy books, draw & paint, go for walks, and plot novels.
